  • Misconception of shelter animals
    • Unflattering imagery of animals
  • Lack of volunteers/fosters
  • Cut-down on stray/unwanted animals
  • Budget restrictions
    • Poorly designed and unmaintained websites
    • Websites often branch out to other websites; leading the visitor away from our cause
  • Shelters themselves are aesthetically unwelcoming

Problem

Some questions that we are asking ourselves during our ideation:

  • Is there a more effective way to allow people to find locally/nationally available animals that can be adopted?
  • How does branding affect the way people view organizations such as animal shelters?
  • Is there a better way to convince people to adopt rather than just merely donate?
  • How does design affect the way/amount in which we donate to a cause? What do users need in order to prompt them to donate?
  • How do you change a negative public perception?
What is your design inquiry?
  • Is there a more effective way to allow people to find locally/nationally available animals that can be adopted?
  • How does branding affect the way people view organizations such as animal shelters?
  • Is there a better way to convince people to adopt rather than just merely donate? (Inform them that adoption is easier than they may expect and correct the misconception of shelter animals.)
  • How does design affect the way/amount in which we donate to a cause? What do users need in order to prompt them to donate?
  • How do you change a negative public perception?

How will your project add or contribute to the field of design?
  • It will help to determine ways to visually organize/communicate mass amounts of varied information, as well as explore how to break a negative social stigma

What’s your project is about (the subject/topic)?
  • The project is about helping animals and informing the public about how they could help them
What is not known or already existing and/or what you are questioning/pursuing?
  • Is there a better way to communicate to the audience that animals need there help?
  • How can we convert people who don’t care into caring?
  • How can we gain repeat supporters?

What you plan to accomplish?
  • Creation of single organized database of adoptable and lost animals; the “ amazon” of dog adoption. Multiple vendors (shelters) housed in a central maintained location.
  • Design a strong, easy to navigate web presence with a clear message/story — which would be displayed through a series of additional re-designed print collateral. Examples: Pet of the Week, easily searchable database of adoptable/missing animals, various ways of making an informed decisions, links to local shelters/vets/clinics
Why you want to do it?
  • There are a lot of lonely animals out there, who may be helped by merely creating a well-organized website and improved communication. Also, many shelters don’t have the funds to create a well-built website; is there a way we can do it for them?
